Community Outreach
Community outreach and engagement are critical to the success of historic and cultural preservation and planning efforts. Making sure people are engaged ensures that the process is inclusive, sustainable, and reflective of the community's values and goals. All CPC community-based projects prioritize meaningful engagement.
CPC believes that our role is to act as facilitators, not experts. We are present to assist community members in identifying their vision, and act as partners in identifying policy and planning tools to assist with implementing that vision. Where possible, we compensate community members for their expertise and assistance in planning projects.
Recent or ongoing CPC projects that have included substantial community engagement efforts include creation of the 5th Avenue/Pleasant Street Black Cultural Heritage Trail in Gainesville, FL, and neighborhood revitalization plans for the Durkeeville neighborhood in Jacksonville, FL, neighborhood transformation plans in New Orleans, LA and Gainesville, FL, and an update of the historic preservation policy in Bozeman, MT.
