Grant Writing and Administration

Historic Preservation Grants

Grant funding is often a primary source of accomplishing historic preservation and planning projects. We have significant experience writing successful grant applications and managing the subsequent projects. Grant submissions, awards, and management include numerous historic preservation grants awarded by the Florida Division of Historical Resources, National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the National Park Service. Projects covered by the grants include: historic resource surveys, an archeological predictive model, historic design guidelines, a historic structure report, preservation nonprofit board training, and a heritage education publication.

As examples, a National Trust grant award brought Joe McGill with the Slave Dwelling Project to Kingsley Plantation in Jacksonville, FL for a community conversation and overnight stay in conjunction with the 2018 Florida Trust for Historic Preservation state conference. A National Parks Service Civil Rights grant assisted in completion of a historic structure report for Evans Rendezvous, a prominent community restaurant and club in American Beach, FL. An African-American Cultural and Historical Grant for Evans Rendezvous was recently secured for the building’s rehabilitation.

Additional successful grants we’ve written and administered include grants for parks and recreation master planning and sea level rise vulnerability assessments. We’ve also been on the other side of the grants table, serving as reviewers for the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Telling the Full History grants, Florida African American Cultural Heritage, and Florida Trust for Historic Preservation 11 to Save Fund  grants.
