Johnson Commons is a mixed-use infill development currently under construction in Jacksonville’s historic LaVilla neighborhood. Intended to diversify residential options and increase home ownership within the community, the 3.4-acre, two-phase project will include 91, 1,400 square foot townhouses and retail space adjacent to the Emerald Trail and Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing Park. Master site planning consulting services involved the development of a modern townhouse concept that would pay homage to the neighborhood’s African American culture, scale, and density, while aligning with the goals of the Downtown Investment Authority’s Neighborhood Redevelopment Strategy. Featuring an architectural style inspired by LaVilla’s historic built environment, additional consulting services provided include historic research, data collection and graphic design of heritage markers intended to link the present with the past. Additional projects we’ve assisted in the development of master site planning include the Pearl Street District, Uptown LaVilla and Lincoln Court in Jacksonville, FL.
